How can you blame him?

So now what are you going to do? Your world has been dying for the last century and in order to revive it you begin to explore space to find sources of energy to replenish your home world's strength. Sounds like a good start and very logical.

Now let me state why I admire Megatron. Though I won't admit to be a super status geek on the Transformers franchise I've seen enough episodes and versions to draw a pretty conclusive opinion on this "villain". And maybe afterwards you may have a different perspective on this misunderstood robot. I think the guy has a sliver of a heart, even if he wouldn't admit it.

First lets begin with Megatron's crew. A small brigade of treacherous knuckleheads who are no different than a bunch of cobras. Each of them holds a loyalty as small and dwindling as a line of thread. The prime example is Starscream who constantly bickers and challenges Megatron for command. Then in most occasions is beaten to a pulp or plainly told to just shut up. But how Megatron keeps control of this shaky alliance is with a careful chain of fear and respect. This is how he has successfully shackled them into submission.

Typically whenever Deceptions are on screen Megatron is seen or mentioned. If they are sent on a mission they constantly ask if their leader would be pleased or what would he think on the situation. So not only have the Decepticons become physically concerned for their well being, but also now they've been mentally imprisoned. He's established a trustworthy crew now. It doesn't matter if their subordination is only through fear, or even if they resent their leader while performing the task. It won't matter as long as Megatron is the strongest of them all. So until then nothing will change. They will obey.

But probably the most important thing which keeps Megatron sharp is having an eternal rival. An equal who reminds him he'll never have full control. It keeps Megatron on edge and to continually push himself further. If Optimus Prime wasn't there to prevent the takeover on Earth perhaps the villain wouldn't be ready for the challenge of restoring Cybertron. For nothing is free and there is always some kind of exchange. As the Old die new young are born. But their stories carry forever on. Whether good or wicked history sings both tales.

So tell me what is a hero? A defender of your own kind who is willing to do anything to keep your race going even if it means the elimination of another peoples life? Or would you stand with a protector of life in general. Both sides on this war are more relatable than one would think after some pondering.
